Moving images (objects)

Don't use a slide master with an image placeholder -- instead just drag the image(s) you want onto a standard slide.

I'm not clear what the issue might be, as the method you describe should work perfectly. This happens if you paste onto a completely blank slide? Does it happen for other images as well, or just those copied from this chart package?

Try copying the graph, then open Preview and in the File menu choose "New from Clipboard". Save the resulting image, and drag that onto the slide.

It sounds like something may be wonky with your installation of Keynote -- I'd suggest deleting it and re-installing.

Try saving the plot files in a bitmapped format (png,tiff, jpeg) in Preview and pasting those just for comparisons sake. Pretty weird I must say. Didn't you have issues with these plot images once before, I seem to remember it coming up before.

Any image can be made a placeholder and you can certainly have as many as you wish but that shouldn't effect moving or resizing them.

Perhaps you should post the image file to get somebody to replicate/confirm your issue with it.

When you copy from your plotting application, you seem to be copying vector data, possibly postscript or maybe something else if it's old like pict file. When it gets to KN it is not interpreting it correctly and somehow generating an error that doesn't let you resize. Vector art for a plot has advantages over a bit map file in size and in not being resolution limited in the way a bit map is. You could try printing a PDF from your plotting application to keep the vector art. You may need to mask the result in keynote to hide bit's of printout you don't want. If you have a vector-based drawing application you can edit the file itself.

To make an image a placeholder select the image and use *Format Menu> Advanced> Define as Media Placeholder*. This allows you to hot-swap the file being used so that the placement, opacity and any builds you assigned to the previous image stay applied to the replacement image. It should not make any difference to your ability to resize the image.

I had exactly this problem with both Vector Art graphics and PDFs containing, or saved from, Vector Art originals.

It baffled me for ages, until I stumbled on the solution. You are right, it appears that you cannot move an image imported or pasted in this manner. However, you actually can do so. You just have to +ensure that the tip of the cursor is actually pointing to a line or other shape within the graphic+.

Trying to pick up an image by clicking in the blank (or white) parts of the graphic won't work. Clicking on a non-blank/non-white part of the shape does work.

Yes, if a graphic has a transparent background, the cursor will not select the object if that background is clicked -- one has to actually grab the opaque part of the object.

Yes as I typed "not interpreting the data correctly" I thought to myself "that's rubbish why is it displaying at all then". It would be great if you could actually attach files in these forums. A quick check would have sorted that about 10 posts and 4 days ago (assuming that's what it was and it sounds viable).

On another forum I attend you can attach and mostly people ask to see the file as it saves on a lot of misinterpretation.
