Safari Bookmark crash

Safari crashes whenever I click on either the open bookmark icon in the bookmarks bar or 'show all bookmarks' in bookmarks menu. I can still access the individual bookmarks in the bookmark bar and I can add bookmarks. This has only occurred since applying the latest security update (2005-06), Safari Update 1.3.1 and Java Update, so I don't know which, if any of these, is the culprit. I have tried re-applying these updates as well as the MacOSX Update Combo 10.3.9.

Can anyone suggest a fix as I really do not want to lose all the bookmarks I have installed in Safari.

Thanking you in advance

Hi, Jannel,
I have just noticed this bug, this morning. My system is fully updated and like yours is a g4 running 10.3.9. I removed the bookmarks file from the Library but this did not remove the bug so I replaced the bookmarks file. Just last week I installed a backup of 10.3 onto a partition on a new HD I bought and ran the software update which included the 10.3.9 combo.
I have fixed the problem by replacing just the Safari application from the backup. This does not replace your bookmarks. If you are worried make a copy of the bookmark.plist from your Libary/Safari/bookmark first. I have quit and relaunched Safari several times and access all bookmarks with no further problems.

These are the updates that I applied recently. My backup ha had the 10.3.9 combo whereas the routine system has been done incrementally. I had also been using Safari Enhancer with my routine version but not with the backup and recently removed it so this may have caused problems but I have no evidence or this.

Hi iPreferMac,

As you kindly suggested, I replaced my current version of Safari with a backup I had and I can now access all my bookmarks once again. I made a copy of the bookmark.plist just in case but it was not necessary. Thank you so much for the fix as there were a number of bookmarks I needed to access.

By the way, I too had been using Safari Enhancer with my usual version and I had been unable to successfully download an update, so maybe that was causing the problem.

Anyway, thank you again.

kind regards
Jannel

Same problem here and I know that Safari Enhancer is at fault. All of it started after using S.E. and trying unsuccessfully to download an update.

My question is: where can I find a full version of Safari since I don't have a back-up and all that I can find is an up-date to Safari. I have OS 10.3.9 and
Safari 1.3.1

Thanks

Of course I had a back-up of Safari!!! on the Panther's install disk! Just for the sake of completeness I'll describe what I did, after reading a little. Downloaded Pacifist to extract the OS X lnstall package from the Panther disk; there I found Safari and Pacifist installed it. I had, before, deleted the broken Safari, but not the bookmarks.plist. I then downloaded the update and all worked well, but for one thing: Safari was in english and I'm french-canadian.
I then remembered the language file I had downloaded from Safari enhancer's site which was for some other problems but which served me well
because I put the different languages files in: Safari/Package Contents/Resources, and voilà mon p'tit père! If you are with 10.3.9, my advice is: don't touch Safari Enhancer, even with a long stick!
Thanks to those who know.
