Burn to virtual CD?

To the best of my knowledge, you cannot do this from within iTunes. iTunes expects the insertion of a physical disk in the burner and will not recognize a disk image as a burnable volume.

Might I ask why you want to do this? If we knew what it was you were trying to achieve with these "virutal CDs", someone might be able to suggest another means of accomplishing it.

No, there isn't. Really. 🙂

Not sure what you are trying to do here. In Finder, you do this by creating a Burn Folder, which creates a virtual CD that you can burn for real by inserting a blank CD.

In iTunes there is no need to do this. You just create a playlist that acts as your "virtual CD" and you can Burn it anytime you want after inserting a blank.

on a Mac, yes. File menu > New Burn Folder

in iTunes, no. No-one has ever identified a need.

But I imported them in non-MP3 format. Now I want to get them to MP3. And I don't want to waste a bunch of blank CD's to do it

Change iTunes Preferences > Importing so that the format is MP3 (bitrate of your choosing).
Select all the tracks you want to convert, then choose Convert Selection to MP3 in the Advanced menu.

After conversion, the non-MP3 tracks will still be selected so you can Command-backspace delete them if you wish.

I'm sorry, we're ALL missing something here. I thought you wanted this to be able to convert non-MP3s and we explained how to do that. Now you're still saying you want this "virtual CD". If not only for converting to MP3, then what? There's something you're not telling us. Is it because Finder can create a Burn Folder, but iTunes can't? Well, Finder doesn't have playlists, is the answer to that one.

I think you should go back to the beginning here, and let us know exactly why you want this thing, then if there is an existing way to achieve the same thing in iTunes (like converting to MP3), we can tell you.

Bottom line, a playlist IS a virtual CD, but if that's not enough, then please expand for us. Otherwise we cannot help much.

Playlists ARE virtual CDs (though they aren't actually called that). Do you use them?

For PLAY, you use a playlist.

For BURNING, you use a playlist plus a blank physical CD.

Christopher, you might want to mention that that technique does not work with DRM-protected files, just on the outside chance that it is, ahem... relevant to the poster's question.
