Hi, you will probably not be getting any sound.
I have issue with DCR-SR40 what uses "MPEG2 muxed" compression format.
For some reason no one understands, and that APPLE shops don't tell you about unless you know what to ask when buying and the software engineers apparently refuse to fix, Imovie and Final Cut don't read this compression format properly.
You will find workarounds, that are extremely time consuming and cumbersome when searching under mpeg2 muxed in the forums.
Best of Luck.

With iMovie open and then you connect the camera via USB does the camera import window open? If not try iMovie -> File -> Import From Camera...

Try purchasing the Apple MPEG 2 Component from Apple.

iMovie will only import muxed mpeg files via USB camera, card reader, or disk image that uses the directory DCIM.
