Warranty - Customer service

I love calling cust service - you can call five different times and get five different answers..

in march 2008 i got my first phone... in june 2008 it needed to be swapped out.. so i got my second phone in june 2008...

first i was told the warranty date is one year from march 2008.

then i was told that the new (second) phone restarts the warranty and so my warranty goes from june 2008 to june 2009.

today i am told no- that my one year warranty has ended march 2009 - one year from date of purchase of first phone..

of course i have issues with this.. because theoretically you could get a replacement on day 364, and need a 3rd phone 2 days later and ergo you are out of warranty..

Not true. If you receive an exchange under warranty within 90 days of the original warranty expiration date, you have 90 days of warranty coverage for the exchange. If you received an exchange under warranty on day 364 of the original warranty period, you would have 90 days of warranty coverage on the exchange beginning on the date you received the exchange.

That is the way one year warranties work.

If the warranty started over every time an iphone (or any product) was replaced, then it would be possible for the warranty to never run out. You could continue to return it on day 364 forever.

A warranty is not a lifetime guarantee. It provides for ONE year (365 days) of assurance that you will have a defect free product, or they will replace - within that year. After 365 days, you have no assurance that the product will be defect free. This is true of all products with a one year warranty. It is not an iphone issue.

Your warranty expired in March of this year.

If a problem developed with your iPhone in March before your warranty expired which required an exchange under warranty, the exchange would have included warranty coverage for an additional 90 days from the exchange date.

And you can purchase the AppleCare extended warranty anytime before the one year warranty period expires, which extends the standard one year warranty for an additional year.
