It won't let me manually add songs?

I have an iPod touch, and I've recently restored it because it was completely frozen for whatever reason...

so anyway. I've been trying to add music to it manually, but it's only allowing me to Sync it. I wouldn't mind, except for the fact that it's creating a bunch of playlists that I don't want and it's not letting me delete the playlists either. I prefer manual a lot better. When I go to the Music tab, and I deselect Sync, it won't let me add music manually.
