Samsung S860

Hi. I have a Samsung S860 camera and am unable to download pictures to I Photo. I called the support line and they indicated that this camera only works with Windows 98, but suggested I post a message to see if anyone else has found a way around this. I have a Mac Version 10.5.6. Thanks for any help you can provide. Steve1978

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums

1 - Samsung technical specs say it works with the Mac - http://www.samsungcamera.com/product/proview.asp?prol_uid=4099&catuid=11

2 - pretty much any camera with a USB interface that shoots JPEG works with the Mac

3 - what have you tried?

If iPhoto is set to open when a camera is detected (iPhoto manu ==> preferences) the connecting it and turning it on should launch iPhoto and start the import process (which takes a min or so - be patient) Would you mind telling us what does happen?

Alternatives include using image capture (in your Applications folder), mounting the to the desktop and manually loading the photos and (recommended) using a USB card reader

Have you tried any (or all of) these?

All I see is the camera in picture taking mode.

What does this mean? You are seeing the camera in "picture taking mode" from iPhoto?

Thanks Larry,

When I say the camera is in picture taking mode, I mean on the camera, I see whatever I point it at, as I would do when taking a picture.

There does not appear to be any connection between the camera and IPhoto. When I hooked up the Sony camera, it asked me if I wanted to download my pictures, but the Samsung does not do that. Thanks.

I understand that it is not working like the Sony - but try the three work arounds I suggested and read the Samsung manual on connecting to Mac
