older iPod plugged in but ejected causes menu bar to freeze - fixed yet?

I've found several people who have the same problem.
If you plug in an older iPod, then eject it but leave it physically plugged in, the menu bar freezes up. The time stops advancing, and you get a spinning rainbow beach ball of doom when you hover the mouse cursor over most of the menu bar.
The moment you physically unplug the iPod the menu bar catches up.

This seems to be an old problem based on the age of several forum posts regarding it. Is it fixed yet, or not?

If you create another user account, does it occur then also? If not, you can try moving the finder.plist file to the Desktop from home/Library/Preferences folder.

If it helps, you will need to reset all your Finder preferences. If not, you can move it back to the Preferences folder to replace the new file it created to restore your previous preferences
