iTunes not allowing me to add mp4 video file to my library

I have a few mp4 formatted videos (thanks to videora), but when i select 'add file/folder to library...', they simply do not appear in my library. Its the same when i drag the files from another window into iTunes.

I am also trying to add video files to my library and iTunes just ignores this add function....no error message......no warning......nothing. (I cannot understand how this could pass Apple's Quality Control).
As there is no indication on why this is happening from the software or the Apple support website, I am hoping that someone else has come across this problem and has found an answer.
