HP 2015 printer problems

I have a HP 2015 to use with my iMac 24" Intel 2.8ghz.

I've had it now for approx 2 years, and am at the end of my tether as it so frequently gives error messages that is now offline, and I need to reboot both iMac and printer to have a hope of working (all of my family had given up trying to use it as it is so frequently not working).
This is a problem for me, as the idea of my set up is that it is easy to use and always ready for my family who don't have the technical knowledge patience to use it as it is.

I've read on some forums that HP drivers don't play nice with Macs. Is there any known problems with this printer on an iMac?
Is there any updates I should apply (all my Apple software is up to date)?
Should I just buy a new printer (that would be a shame) and if so which one is most Mac friendly?

For completeness I should mention it is connected via a USB Hub and 3 meter USB powered extension cable, however I can't see this is the problem as I stream HD video content through the same hub so the connection is broad and strong with no perceptible drop-outs.

Many thanks,
Dan.

HP's website appears to say, they do have drivers for 10.5 Intel. They haven't been updated since January 2008, so that means they may not work with newer Macs than that, or with Macs updated beyond the operating system of that date, which would be 10.5.1. If you can run 10.5.1 and it works there, then I would say, see if alternative printer drivers exist that might work with it, on my FAQ*:

Note the dates of release of each 10.5 operating system on this page:

I had the same problems with my P2015 in January. It would show paper jam errors, no paper errors, get stuck trying to start up or wouldn't wake up if it had gone to sleep. I kept having to turn the printer off and then on for it to print. I had the same problems if it was connected by USB or on the network. It needed a new motherboard. Talk to an HP tech, it's a fairly common problem. My problems stated after we were hit with the ice storm in December and only had generator power for 9 days. I was lucky, it was under warranty, so I have no idea what the part costs. It's been working like new ever since.

I had big problems with the HP 2015D, until I upgraded the printers driver to the latest version. Unfortunately HP do not allow an AppleOSX computer to upgrade the firmware. Such an upgrade must be done by a Windoze computer, running HP's program, which is an *.exe style program.

So you need to get someone with a MS operating system to connect via USB to your HP 2015, and then operate the latest firmware upgrade. After that you may fix all your problems, as I did.
