23" Cinema HD Display - No Picture but power and recognised

Hi there,

My display has no picture but is recognised in the Display Sys Prefs by my MacBook Pro and Mac Pro. Power light is on continuously, not flashing any diagnosics. Have tried with new Power Supply to no avail.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot between backlight, main board, LCD panel and inverter?

Many thanks

Macbook Pro 17", Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I'm having the very same problem - but even stranger for me is that I've just taken home a 23" ACD that I used in work connected to a PowerMac G5 and when I connect it to my personal PowerMac G5 at home it doesn't work!? It shows it is receiving power and when I connect it to my MacBookPro and open sys prefs it is recognized as a display but the display itself is just black screen - so it doesn't work with my home G5 or MacBookPro...?

The same G5 (home) was running a 20" ACD until yesterday just fine - just this 23" that won't work...

Any help greatly appreciated (I have tried to reset as advised but no joy).

unfortunately no help from my side - i'm facing the exact same problem. have tried all the advise: resetting the Pram, resetting smc, plug, unplug.
worst: sometimes the display just works nicely without any apparent change in set-up/environment. sometimes the screen would come to live after 10 min of blackness. i'm running a macbook pro. sometimes the clamshell mode works than again not. very frustrating. apple is not really helpful, so far i found lot of users complaining about similar issues. some people point at the power brick...

anybody any idea?? thank you

I'm having the same problem as you're describing, otto8--it's taking my 23" Cinema Display like 10 minutes to display an image.

Has anyone found a reliable fix to the problem? Does buying a 150W power brick fix the problem permanently, or is it just a way of buying time until the faulty component dies completely? I'm wondering if it would make more sense for me to just go ahead and pay Apple for the repairs.

Hi all,

I had the same problem. My Apple dealer told me that my 23" CD would have to be repaired for "only" 750€ (1100$) due tu a failure of a main board component (Of course the warranty had expired about 6 month earlier). Rage and furious anger....are they kidding me? I bought a new 26" Samsung for 360€.

A couple of month later I found a thread where somebody told me to try to use the 150W power supply sold with the 30" CD. I tried it and, guess, it works fine again!

When I then wanted to order this power supply at apple.com I was told that, as an owner of a 23" CD I was not allowed to order a power supply unit for the 30" CD???

I finally got one but hey apple, be serious, is this the best you can do to satisfy your customers?

Success!! I've been a Main Menu user for some time (I own a copy - not just the trial version) and I just ran the full set of routines. In the middle of doing so my 23" turned on, just as good as new. No idea which specific routine did the trick, or even if it was Main Menu that fixed the problem, but it sure seems that way.

Good luck.
