I have had my white macbook for almost one year. Recently, the computer has began to make a "bonk" noise (I'm sorry for the elementary description, I'm just not sure how else to describe it). The noise happens at random. I can be actively using my macbook and it will make the noise, or it can be "asleep" and still make the noise. There is nothing "bouncing" on the dock. All updates are recent. I'm just not sure why it is making this noise. Any ideas on what may be causing this?
So far none of that worked (I do not have macmail anyways). There doesn't seem to be any other problems with the computer, just the sporratic noise. I'm not sure if it is a mechanical noise or something coming out of the actual speaker, either.
Use the buttons on the top of the keyboard to mute the sound. Continue using the computer for a while and see if the "bonk" sound is heard.
Another thing to try would be to create a new user account (Open *System Preferences* and click the
Accounts pane, then the plus âž• sign beneath that list), log out of the current account and into the new one. Leave the sound on and see if the "bonk" noise is heard while in that account.
I feel silly for not thinking about muting the computer, I haven't heard the noise since I muted. However, as soon as I turned the sound back on I heard the noise again. Oh well, maybe it's just a little "quirk" my macbook has developed over the past year! =)
The only installations I have made on the computer are Microsoft office pro 2008, Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, Firefox, and recently a program for my Voyage 200 calculator. These were all installed about a year ago except for the calculator program, which I installed yesterday (The sound has been going on for several weeks now). No extra dashboard widgets.
