Imac monitor black perimeter is magnetic.

It's not actually the screen itself that is magnetic. The glass covering your screen is held onto your iMac by magnets, I'm sure that was what the band and bracelets picked up. This isn't a feature it's just how the glass is held on.

On the White iMacs (the cases prior to the aluminum ones) there was a magnet on the outside edge that was use to stick your remote to, yes the remote as a small magnet in it. If you want to test put your remote up to the black edge on the front of your imac and you will feel a slight magnetic pull, not enough to hold it but you can tell it's there.

I just tried the same thing with my iPod earbuds and my Intel iMac which I've had for six months and nothing happens.

I've yet to hear of anyone with this anomaly before.

Did you try placing the remote to the black perimeter?

Ok, I just tried it... nothing, zilch. Cat hair LOL but nothing metal.

Wouldn't the magnet issue here have to be really small in order to not have any effect on the hard disk?

Huh, well I can feel it on mine but believe me I'm not going to tempt fate by playing with it. I'm not sure where inside my iMac the HD is but I know magnets and HD's don't mix so for now the remote (and anything else magnetic) stays away from my machine.
