Install CanoScan N1220U Drivers

I have a Canon Scanner CanoScan N1220U (Model Year 2000). I plugged it into an open USB port on my iMac G5 running OS X 10.4.2. Image Capture did not recognize a capture device. I opened System Profiler - my system recognizes a device called CanoScan connected to the USB port, but does not know it is a scanner.

I downloaded the current drivers from the Canon website for OS X. When I run the Canon Install program, I am greeted with a window that asks for the "Install Location". I select "Add Install Location", and am then greeted with a window to select the location for the drivers.

I do not know where "to point" the installation to. Which folder/location do I select as the location for my scanner drivers?

Thanks.

The "Install" button is dimmed/grayed-out. It does not allow me to select "Install".

With that said, I came across some more information that answered some questions, but opened up a lot more.

When I first went to Canon to download the drivers, I noticed the driver was titled "...Ver. 3.8.1 for Mac OS X". During troubleshooting, I went to the Support area FAQ section. I discovered "How do I install the scanner's driver or plug-in?...For Macintosh (OS 8.6 - 9.1 & OS X in Classic Mode only)".

There is part of the problem. The driver is for OS X, but apparently for something called Classic Mode. I am new to Mac, and do not know what Classic Mode is. I have searched the Help section and the online tutorials, and it seems I need something called a Mac OS 9 System Folder. I do not know what this is either.

Do I have to install an older version of the Mac OS 9 on my system in addition to OS X to get this to work, or am I not understanding this System Folder thing?

Thanks.
