Monitor with wrong resolution after 10.5.7 update!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

After just updating to 10.5.7 on my Mac Mini 2,1 (2GHz) my monitor (Belinea o.display 4_24, 24", connected via DVI) is not recognized correctly any more!

It should be running at 1920x1200 native resolution but is now stuck on a bizarre 1920x1080. Additionally, I found a new tab in my monitor prefs offering TV-Screen options like "overscan".

I tried clearing all caches and restarting the machine but nothing would work!

Please help, since I can't work at a screen with buggy resolution!

I've got an original mac with built-in graphics - so why is this happening!?!?!? This is a nightmare....

Cheers, Matt

Same here:

Mac Mini, C2D 1.83 GHz GMA950, Samsung LE436 (native DVI res: 1360 x 768). TV has a dedicated DVI port that uses HDMI cables. I'm using a long DVI cable with an adapter to HDMI for going into the TV's "DVI in".

Before 10.5.7, the TV was recognized as a normal display (when using either DVI or VGA) and I could select the native resolution. Now it's only regognized as an an analog TV (like when using the S-Video adapter).

4 person with a mac mini to face this problem after the update so far. Still counting. Apple is still looking into this
Try the basic stuff 1st,
Unplug everything, restart
Do a PRAM reset
Try with a different Display (if you have one)
and try hitting "Detect Displays". (lastly)

I'm still surfing around trying to find some answers. Will get back

No need for apple to ease on this issue - but I found a solution that works for me:

I researched a little and found screenResX ( http://www.madrau.com/html/SRX/DL.shtml) which gave me a control panel to manually set up the exact horizontal and vertical sync ranges, as well as the pixel clock and the resolution for my screen. Great tool by the way! My screen now looks more crisp than ever before...

@MrCrowbar: when you are in the commons tab, you need to click into the "active" column asides the desired resolution or - like i did - set up a unique profile for your monitor in the "custom" tab (add one by clicking the plus-symbol at the bottom of the window). then you need to restart your machine and select the newly activated resolutions within the original monitor pref-pane.

cheers ciz

This happened to me also, after installing 10.5.7 combo upgrade on a Macbook Pro with an LG 24" monitor attached (DVI). I suspect it has something to do with the HDMI connection making it "look" like a television. Sadly, 10.5.5 and earlier "just worked" -- wasn't that supposed to be Apple's forte?

Thanks for the tip, Matt -- you saved my night. I used the "export" button to get the file containing the right numbers for 1920x1200 resolution and all is right with the world again. Cheers..
