iPod not registering under devices in iTunes...help

So last night I was updating my iPod Touch because I had it on 1.1.2 because it was from my other computer and it had all my music on it except that computer broke a while ago so I decided to just change it last night to this computer so I could use apps. Thing is I update and all my music disappears and it goes back to normal which is alright but now my iPod doesn't show up under devices (theres nothing there) even when it's plugged in. I know it isn't the USB because my iPod still charges. I have tried everything I can think of and I looked at the topic but it doesn't help. I really need this, please somebody out there help.

i think you might have to restore you ipod touch

BUT BEFORE YOU DO wait for someone else to confirm that

if that doesn't work try this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

You could try and get your purchased music and apps off your touch and onto your computer by http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 (transferring your purchases) , (if it still detects your touch) or do it the long and manual way to getting music off your ipod, or you could get some third party software and see if you can get the music off the ipod. (if nothing works here i will compile a list of how to do this)

Thank you so much Alex. It was the second one that made it work. I needed to restart it but because it wasn't shwoing up i didn't know how to master reset it but thank you so much for showing me.
