(UK) Where to buy Good RAM at a Good price?

I am currently wishing to upgrade my iMac G5 from 512MB of RAM to 1512MB by purchasing a good quality reasonably priced 1GB stick of RAM.

Where do I go to get the best deals on RAM?

I hear the best makes to go for are:

Kingston
Corsair
Winbond
Rosewill

Is this true or are there any other brands out there I can safely go for?

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

Chris

I also recommend using crucial.com

haven't had any problems with their RAM, but have had trouble buying "discount" RAM from other sites.

also - a few tips to save about 10% at crucial [you can you these both together]:

1. use crucial's live chat with an expert to get memory recommendations for your system - at the end you get a coupon code for 5% off.

2. join Yub, where you will earn 4% back if you click on the crucial site thru Yub [after joining - its free - and beneficial, they have lots of stores to save with, including apple!]. if you choose to join Yub, please cite me at your referral, my "Yubtag" is: beicke

if you cite a referral, you and i both get an automatic 5 bucks in our accounts!
you can't argue with free money 🙂

i Crucial memory is also worth considering. I think its actually Samsung branded though.

Crucial is really just a retail division of Micron Technology. The large majority of their memory carries the Micron and Crucial labels. Sometimes they will sell another brand (like Samsung) if they have a shortage of Micron-branded parts or if they have a particular application that gets along better with another company's modules.

Crucial is good stuff, but they are currently charging $181.23 for the 1GB chip. That is outrageous!

I have been using Patriot RAM from newegg.com for almost a year in my first gen iMac without a hitch. Less than $100 right now.

EDIT - just saw the "UK" part and newegg.com does not ship internationally. There has to be a local retailer that can get the Patriot RAM for you if you want.

If you're willing to buy from Newegg, they are a reseller of Crucial modules. The PC3200 1 GB DIMM is $106.50 US at this moment. Of course buying from Newegg means more research because of the fees associated with returns if it doesn't work. I've read enough memory threads that I believe many people have reported that this exact part number works in the iMac G5s requiring PC3200 DIMMs.

Also - Crucial.com has it for $150 as a non-specific part:

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs.Asp?IMODULE=CT12864Z40B

And for the iMac G5 (not the DDR2 models) it's the same price (today):

I guess a lot of people get ticked off with Crucial because of their "dynamic pricing" structure that changes by the day/hour and apparently charges different prices for the same (or similar) modules depending on application.
