iPhone 2G and the 3.0 software update.

Hello fellow forum users! I am the proud owner of an original 2G iPhone - I haven't upgraded to the 3G version for a number of reasons really - 3G coverage in the area I live in is non-existent, I have no use really for GPS and I was disappointed with the build quality when compared to my 2G, as well as other little niggles like the 3G's battery life when compared to mine. I've heard about the 3.0 software update due soon which is due to address a lot of iPhone users' issues. I therefore have a few questions:
1) Will the update be available for my 2G iPhone?
2) If it will, what features of the update are unlikely to work with my iPhone? I've heard something about the Bluetooth - understandable as the iPhone 3G has differnt internals, but no MMS for the iPhone 2G? I have a crappy £10 phone that does MMS, surely my phone has the capability?

Any insights would be much appreciated, and I'd like to thank you in advance for your time and effort.

Sony Vaio, Windows Vista, Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz, 2 GB SDRAM, 120GB HDD, Wifi, DVD+- RW DL/RAM, NVIDIA Geforce Go 7400 Graphics Card

Yes.

The Original iPhone does not have the correct hardware for MMS according to a statement when 3.0 was announced. It also will not be able to use A2DP bluetooth profile.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not here to bash, in fact I have a 2G iphone myself...here's where I have a problem. You cannot tell me the 2G iphone lacks 'hardware' to do MMS. That's simply not true. Swirly MMS was created by a 3rd party, and uses the exact same hardware, yet provides 2G users with MMS. Can you explain this? Once again..no Apple bashing from me(I'm converting 2 of my friends as I write this...) but I feel like I was lied to and left behind--the 2G iphone is NOT old technology by any means. You can't tell me this advanced piece of hardware isn't capable of doing something any free phone on the market now can do. Apple has dropped the ball on this one...

There are also 3rd party apps (not on the app store) that allow the original phones to shoot video. Lets face it, Apple once again just wants us to buy new hardware when our current hardware still works fine. Its a cop out and has been their business model since the iPod first came out. It *****. I certainly won't spend another $200 for features that should be included on my current phone.

I too love my 2g - in my 60 years of life it is perhaps the best designed and engineered device I have seen or owned. I think the one point Apple can make is that the 3g s has a faster processor. The 3.0 OS seems to need extra power - so video, and maybe MMS, would likely lead to dissatisfied 2g owners. Unless you like to be cutting edge I would suggest 2g owners wait a few weeks for 3.1 patches.
