End Call Button not working

Hi,

This doesn't happen every call, but probably every 30-40 calls. I'll be in the middle of a call and when I'm done I'll tap the red End Call button. The button will darken as usual but then when I release my finger it will light back up again and act as if I never pressed it. No matter how many times I press it (it still darkens each time) it will just light back up again. Pressing the home button doesn't end it (it still runs in the background with the green timer bar on top). The only way to end it is if the other party hangs up (which is not possible when leaving a voicemail) or turning the phone off. Force quitting by holding down the home button doesn't work either, as it doesn't look the the Phone Dialer app can be force quit.

Sam,

If something is not working right, Resetting your iPhone may solve the problem. Hold down the sleep and home buttons for 10-15 seconds, ignore the slider to turn it off, let go when you see the Apple logo.

Jim,

Thanks for your suggestion. This has happened ever since July 11 when I first purchase it, and in between that time I have already reset it on multiple occasions. Any other ideas?

I called and they suggested it was a software issue. I restored my iPhone per their suggestion and made a lot of calls tonight to try to recreate the issue and finally after about 50 calls I managed to recreate it. Is this a defective unit?

It could be a problem with your touchscreen. Have you had any other problems with the screen in that area?

Apparently my screen is not defective because it passed all the steps in the KB article... Any other ideas?

My wife's phone does this too. I've encountered it on my phone once maybe twice. She experiences a lot. A recent time was when she called back a recruiter about scheduling a job interview. She left a voicemail and then hit end call, saw the button darken and then turned to me and said, "Well, she sounded like it was urgent, but then she's not there. What's up about that?" Then noticed the call had not ended and was still leaving a voicemail. I hear her muttering all the time "God, I hate the iPhone." And she means the phone part. We both of new 32GB 3GS phones. I may suggest she take it in to a store since my friend keeps telling me how awesome Apple service is.
