Arial Font Problem

My system font Arial keeps getting replaced with a font called Jungle. I clear the cache, restart my computer and all is good for about a minute then it starts all over again. I checked Font Book under "All Fonts" and where "Arial" should be in alphabetical order is that font called "Jungle" I click on it and try to delete etc., but when I restart and open up TextEdit or Safari, that font called "Jungle" I just deleted comes back replaces "Arial" again...this is driving me nuts! I can't keep clearing the cache every 5 minutes. Can somebody help me?

I've already tried that and the font doesn't show up in a search. In fact it doesn't appear now in Font Book either, yet it's still replacing Arial. The only way I know it's jungle is when I open Text Edit. Once it's open I'll type a line of text and then go to select Arial from Text Edit and instead of Arial appearing in the alphabetical order drop down it's the Jungle font that shows up. **** frustrating! I can't be the only Mac user on the planet with this problem.

Hi Zoobadabadoo,

I had exactly the same issue as you, all my Arial text files, and YouToob etc...
not displaying correctly with a weird graph-style font.
I opened a textfile with the corrupted Arial font, then opened Fontbook
and browsed until I found the same font that replaced the Arial font....
It is the "jungle" font, displayed in the list of Fontbook-app, all you have to do
is command-click this font and choose "remove font"= system instantly puts the correct arial font back.

Hope this helps

Well I think my issue is more complex. The font called "Jungle" does not appear in Fontbook or anywhere else on my iMac. As I mentioned before it replaces the Arial font over a random period of time. Once it starts to appear (this is after I had to clear my font cache and restart) it will appear listed in Fontbook, right where Arial would be in alphabetical order. I then right click on it and remove the font, I then restart my iMac and within 30 minutes to an hour "Jungle" shows up again. I'm at my wits end trying to fix this problem, it's been nearly a year and nobody seems to know what is causing this...thanks for all the help, I guess this is something that I will have to put up with.

Kurt Lang gave you a really good answer.
Did you do what he suggested?

+The file probably isn't named "Jungle". The font names you see in your applications are from a font's internal name. The name you see on the desktop means zero. To locate the font, highlight it in Font Book and right click on the name. Choose "Show in Finder". The folder where the font is located will open and the file will be highlighted for you.+

Then, take that file and trash it.
Make sure to empty the trash can, too.
