Macbook shutdown message appears after 60-70 seconds if no keyboard input

If I don't press a keyboard key after 60-70 seconds, the message of shutdown appears and after 5 seconds it shutdowns no matter what, except if I put cancel.
Help please!
Also, the sleep mode doesn't work.

HI,

Gregory McIntire and myself have offered several trouble shooting ideas but, "you've already tried them". In the future, please tell us what you've tried so we don't waste time and efforts.

Now, try shutting down your MacBook for at least 30 minutes. Make sure the power adapter is plugged in so it's not discharging the battery. Then restart your MacBook and see if it functions as it should.

And check System Preferences/Energy Saver and click the Options tab. Click: Schedule. Make sure you do not have the system set to Startup or Wake at certain times.

has anyone a solution?

I would try downloading the "Combo Updater" and redo the update to 10.5.7. Seen too many problems using Apple's "Software Update".

Has anyone seen a definite solution to this problem posted anywhere?

My MacBook shows the 'shutdown' message every few minutes and often shuts down anyway whether I click 'Cancel' or not.

I took it to the Apple shop 3 weeks ago, they tested it, checked logs etc and they advised a new logic board & fan & controller, which I had fitted by the place I bought it from - Not Apple - under warranty. After having it back for 5 days now its started with exactly the same problem. My 2 yr Warranty expired last week!

If Apple shop and a main service dealer can't solve the problem where do I go next - any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion re topcover. I took it to Milton Keynes Apple store and they ran diagnostics etc then left it for a few hours with top cover off and it ran perfectly - the fault was a crack/bad contact around the power button so they replaced top cover/keyboard etc and I got it back the next day (at no charge!) Really excellent service from Simon at the Genius Bar.
