How to shut down menu bar apps without an option to exit

The title says it all. I occasionally need to shut down the app, including the menu bar component that is running. I need to do this to update apps sometimes. How can I shut them down when they are not in the force quit menu either?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Use Activity Monitor located in /Applications/Utilities.

Then browse/search through the list of currently running processes and click Quit Process when you select the appropriate process.

HI,

Try one of the following ways to force an application to quit:

Choose Apple menu > Force Quit, select the application in the list, and click Force Quit.

Hold down the Command and Option keys and press Esc. Then select the application in the list and click Force Quit.

Hold down the Option key and press the application icon in the Dock.

If after you Quit Process using Activity Monitor the menubar icon is still visible you can usually hold down the command key and drag it off the menu.
