Apple, TNT and your Address

Firstly, let me say that I love Apple and it's products. I only want Apple to go from strength to strength.

I was due to receive an iMac G5 today. It arrived out side my house at 12:05pm. The driver could not deliver it, because someone failed to put the first line of my address on the information sent to TNT. I was tracking it, so I waited all day, until my status went to "Delivery Address Incorrect / Incomplete / Missing" at about 5pm. I called TNT to make sure they have my address correct and found out that this can happen a lot with Apple. I'm guessing this is because this was coming from Shanghai, as I have never had a problem with Apple before (Ireland deliveries).

Apple have my full address, so I am bemused as to why TNT didn't have it in this age of technology. Either Kuehne & Nagel failed to pass on the full details to TNT or Apple Shanghai failed to address my package correctly. Either way, Apple should look into this, because had I not been tracking it, it may have sat in a TNT storage area for a couple of weeks.

Anyway, I am due for my delivery tomorrow. I am looking forward to my iMac G5. I only hope someone at Apple is reading this and looks into it so that Apple can keep up the quality it is known for.

SlyApperley - You're not alone, I called TNT prior to my delivery as my iMac was heading from the Bristol Hub to Northampton Hub on the TNT tracking system although I live in Bristol! I was told that this was an error but then confessed to not having my full address! I agree, it's a big concern. I know of a few other users on this forum that have had the same issue. Best of luck with your iMac tomorrow - Dylan.

Same thing happened to me. For two days running the TNT tracker said 'out for delivery' and I waited around like a caged tiger. At the end of day 1 I rang TNT and asked why it wasn't delivered. They said it was because the address wasn't complete. I gave the correct address and was assured delivery would take place the next day.

Early the next morning I rang again to confirm they now had the correct address. They checked and read it back to me. All was OK - or so I thought.

At the end of the next day I still had not received my iMac, so I rang TNT yet again, to be told the address was incomplete. Needless to say I was furious. What more could I have done?

I decided I was not having any more messing around and drove over to East Midlands Airport that evening. It was 40 or so miles, but at least I would have the beast in my hands. Fortunately it was there.

The strange thing was that underneath the address label was another label with the correct address in full. You could even make it out through the top label. Goodness knows how this happened.

What is even more annoying is that the same thing happens each time I have anything delivered from the Apple Store. Apple have my correct address so why on earth aren't they using it?

I can vouch for the fact that it is worth ringing the Apple Store to complain 😉

I guess that the first line of the address (the most important part if you live in a house of flats, or a farm or something) was missing because a computer system along the line somewhere is truncating the address to fit in the required number of boxes in a database, or maybe your post-code doesn't tie up to your address correctly (this is common in houses converted to flats). If this is so, then it's an easy thing to fix. Just catch the point where the address is being shortened, and get them to upgrade to a Mac. 🙂

OK, I worked it out!!

I did receive my iMac today. I have found out who is truncating the addresses. It's TNT! Underneath the TNT delivery sticker is the original address that Apple had put on my iMac box. It clearly states my full name and address.

If TNT had not put their duff sticker over the original one Apple stuck on my box, then I would have had it the day it was supposed to be delivered. Don't believe TNT when they tell you this happens all the time with Apple, it's just not true (I reckon). I will be calling TNT about this to help other users get their iMacs on time.

Agreed, this is a very common experience. I rang TNT regarding the non-arrival of a delivery from Apple, but they told me that Apple frequently send out packages with incomplete addresses.

It may well be that TNT are passing the buck, but I suspect this is quite a common problem with computerised address labels as I've had the same experience with other retailers using other couriers.

But, you'd think it would be a simple problem to rectify, so no excuse really.

Hi Flashman,

Hmm, this problem's been going on for a while but it SHOULD be just a glitch in passing over name and, more importantly, address - the shipment should already have the full details. When you get yours please check the box carefully for a label with your name and full address on it - that label is put on in China but in Holland one from TNT is added, often covering up the original and fully detailed one....

Let us know what you find, cheers.

Mike

That is exactly what happened to me. The TNT label was put over my correctly addressed one that was put on by Apple. TNT is losing money by doing this, it really is in their (and everyone's) interest to make sure that the parcel is labeled correctly. At the very least leaving the Apple label uncovered, which, to my knowledge, is nearly always addressed correctly.
