Downgrading 3.0 Beta 5 to Beta 4 leads up to $800? What?

I had the latest beta software (iPhone 3.0 Beta 5), and I decided to downgrade to Beta 4 to update my carrier settings to enable MMS, my phone was stuck in recovery mode, cause iTunes kept giving me errors... The first time I called Apple, some lady told me to restart my computer, and a restore could take anywhere from 15 to hours

So I got an error, saying that the iPhone could not be restored. I call Apple up again, and told them about it, and they said that since iPhone 3.0 Beta is still in the proccess of being tested, it corrupted software or something like that, and I couldn't downgrade, restore, or anything...

He said that I would have to buy a whole new iPhone? It already costed $400 in the first place, and for a new one, another $400? $800 for an iPhone aint worth it. Is there anyway I could possibly get this iPhone back working properly? I'm just stuck on the pink screen with USB Cable + iTunes. I can't restore to any version, even the 3.0 software I WAS using.
