iTunes Card won't redeem

Hey there, I'm just confused.
Today I bought a $15 iTunes card from FutureShop (I'm in Canada), and now I'm trying to redeem it, but it keeps saying it's invalid.
The person at the cash didn't give me the actual card, but instead tossed it in the garbage and showed me the card number and reference number were on the receipt, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to enter the numbers. I've tried so many different ways, and I just cannot get it. I feel like an idiot, can someone please help?

I think you'll need to go back to the store where you purchased the card. I could be wrong, but I've never heard of the actual code appearing on the receipt when you purchase a physical iTunes card, so my suspicion is that the clerk was wrong when he claimed that the code was on your receipt and tossed the card.
