VLookup using another file

Hi, I want to get data from another numbers file using VLOOKUP function. I am familiar with making it from EXCEL but somehow I have problems doing it Numbers '09. Can anyone advise why I cannot fill the argument panel completely.

This is the fileds I have to fill but the columns range is not applicable is using another file. =VLOOKUP(search-for;columns-range;return-column;close-match)

Any advise?

Thanks: Szimi

I'm desperate to do this too.
We have a table on our Server which has all our customer codes and their latest contact details.
When we used a windows server and all had Excel, all our other spreadsheets used to look to this using =vlookup and got the latest details.
Since the move to macs, and iWork, this doesn't work anymore.

The only work around I have (without paying for Microsoft Office) is to use OpenOffice. Calc seems to be able to use the same vlookup formula to point to a table outside of the current worksheet. It's just a pain to have to use OpenOffice for this one feature because Numbers is much better at nearly everything else!

Any other ideas anyone?

I actually succeed to get the data from the given column but I had to copy the workbook from Excel into the Numbers worksheet. Of course a powerful Mac is needed for this 😉

Since I moved the worksheet I could use the formula as I always did in Excel. It is working well and I love my sheet much better in Numbers than in Excel.

Do you have any problems with the formula itself?
