My touch is synced with my home computer. We are not allowed to keep MP3 files on our work computers but I want to be able to play the music on my ipod through my computer using the USB.

I do have Itunes installed on my work pc but that's only to sync the calendar...no music.

How do I do this?

Dell, None

First a curiosity question. Why do you want to play through the computer? Why not use headphones?

Ok, now to your question. I have never done this before, but this intrigued me. I did some experimenting and got it to work. Here is what I did:

    1) Connect Touch to computer.
    2) Open iTunes.
    3) Your device will show up in the left panel.
    4) Click the little triangle next to your device to expand it.
    5) You now have access to the different content on the Touch.

I have played stuff from Music, Movies and my playlists. Everything works the same way as if it was on your PC.

Hope that helps and good luck!

OMG!!!! That was WAAAAAAY too simple!!! I can't tell you how long me and my husband spent trying to make this work!!! Every place I looked it had these super complicated directions and software to download....BAH!!!

    Anyhoo....THANKS so much.

and to answer your question....I'm often the only person here or one of few people...it's nice to have the ambiance music rather than be in my own world with the headphones.

    Thanks again.

You're welcome. It's the simple solutions that are the hardest to find.

I can understand your reason for this. I had to go into work after hours a couple of times and it is is nice to blast my music.

    Enjoy.

All the offices I have been in necessitated my using headphones, so I never thought about it. I remembered being able to see the contents of the Touch via iTunes, but never put it together until I saw this post.

It is definitely a very cool feature of iTunes!

Seems odd to me u aren't allowed to keep MP3 files on your work PC, yet they don't quibble about iTunes being installed. I had one version itunes a few years back bring my PC to it's knees. I thought I'd have to reformat the HDD. I ended up doing a restore.

Also don't forget to check the box under the ipod touch listing that says manually manage music and videos. That is where I slipped up on my work computer.

Yes, use iTunes can play it without problem.

In case you don't have iTunes installed, I found iPod Computer Wizard can play the music directly! You don't need iTunes at all.
    Take a look at http://www.ipodcomputerwizard.com.
