Does Mac have a text editor?

That's odd; it's "stock" on all Macs... unless somebody moved or deleted it.

You can download and use a program called Pacifist to look into the compressed files on your install disks and find & install TextEdit. I've never used it so can't give you any better directions; Nathan?

Use Pacifist on your original Install disks (DVD or CDs).

I assume you know what you are doing editing an .ini file; never done it on a Mac but common practice in Windows world. What you could do is copy the file to a separate folder, then rename the original "profiles.txt", work on it, then rename it when done back to "profiles.ini" - that sort of "trickery" has worked for me in the past.

In applications, and its called....TextEdit.

Or you could use the Word Processing tool in Appleworks.

And depending on your software package you may have AppleWorks, it has a very nice Word-compatible word processor plus speadsheet, etc.

You could also try TextWrangler, it's free from those nice folks at BareBones.

That's strange, because, as you've found out, it's part of the standard install. All three of my Macs came with it. But glad you got it working anyway!

Thx for the comeback; was your machine a demo or a refurb by any chance? Otherwise it's truly odd because they are all burnt from a common image...
