I have a small monitor brand name MIMO. It claims to connect via USB to intel macs.I can't make it work. The control panel display section doesn't see the monitor.
Do I need a mini dvi to male usb to make it function ?
Thanks

I don't know about MIMO monitors, but USB/DisplayLink monitors of other brands do have Mac drivers.
Kensington
ViBook

Maybe you should try downloading the DisplayLink software mentioned in the link and see if it works with the MIMO, because most of the USB monitors seem to be based on the same standard.

USB monitors aren't my first choice, though, because performance is well below standard video cards or the video out built into Macs.

It does indeed connect via USB to intel macs, no other connection needed for power or display. It is a USB to USB connection. Don't worry about mini-dvi or anything else.
For the "Mimo 710/740 Mac OS X Driver (Display Only) Intel-based Macs only (Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later)" driver, go here: http://www.displaylink.com/support/mac_downloads.html
That works for either model of the monitior, however it does not support the touch functions that the 740 does.

If you need the touch 740 driver, the mimo monitor company does not make these (for whatever reason) and a third party charges money for the driver. Or you can ask for more info if you'd like, as I've dealt with this situation..

As a side-note, just to eliminate a cause, there are 2 usb cables that come with the monitor in case your computer isn't providing enough juice to it and needs 2 usb ports.

Darkslide,

Sorry for the chance message but we also have just purchased the 740 and are having problems finding the touch screen drivers.

Unfortunately the link on the Mimo website to purchase the drivers, sends us to a 404 error, page not found so we are now stuck unable to activate the touch screen feature!

Do you know of anywhere else that we can get this driver as this is one of the main features we bought the display for!??

Thank you in advance,

Rob

Regarding mapping, I just figured out something. When you've installed the UPDD software from TouchBase (the touchscreen driver, which you paid $30 from Mimo), there should be two icons on your Desktop. Open the UPDD Console program.

Click on HARDWARE, then click on "Handling Whole Desktop". You need to choose Monitor 2 (or which ever # your Mimo monitor represents. I already have two monitors, so Mimo is #3).

Once you've selected the monitor, run the UPDD Calibrate program also on your desktop. It should show the calibration screen on your Mimo if all goes well.
