I haven't used my ipod mini for about a year now and when I plugged my ipod into my laptop the other day it just doesn't do anything! Ipod doesn't turn on, itunes doesn't recognise my ipod has been plugged in. Nothing whatsoever! I've got the latest itunes so that isn't the problem. Any assistance would be great.
Chances are, the battery fully drained itself, and is no longer able to hold a charge.
I recently had a similar problem with an old 4GB gen 1 mini, and have just finished resolving it.
There's four things you can do:
1) take it to the apple store, and turn it in for the 10% recycling discount on a new iPod nano. (about $135)
2) take it to the apple store, and have them replace the battery (about $75)
3) order a replacement battery from someplace like iPodjuice.com and replace the battery yourself (about $40)
4) send it to a place like iPodjuice.com and have them replace the battery for you (around $50).
Personally, I opted for option #3, and purchased one of the larger batteries from ipodjuice.com. While I've got it apart, I'm also replacing the original microdrive with an 8GB CF card. Which should give me an 8GB mini with a long battery life.
