Book printing dpi or Lines/inch

does anybody know how the resultion the books are printed ?
Because I use the Nik Output sharpener tool.
I assume the books are printed by any color laser system and so I would have to choose the halftone setting(?). But than I have to know the Lines /inch. for optimised settings of the Nik tool.

I don't have a loop handy to look at a book - but I'm not aware of a LPI setting - they use photos up to 300 dpi and give you a warning if the photo is less than 180 dpi

The Apple tips do not address this - http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/preparation_tips/

I would think that setting for a 300 lpi halftone screen would work fine - I have printed photos in books down to around 150 dpi with outstanding results (300 dpi ones are better - but the lower ones look very good

It certainly is not the same as an offset printing system
