Can't authorize to play song from iTunes

Hi

To use audio from iTunes in a movie project is problematic.

Only secure way I know of is to in iTunes make an Audio-CD (.aiff - not .mp3)

Then use this in the movie project.

This always works.

In addition to Bengt's advice, I would like to add this:

Upgrade your songs to iTunes Plus. That removes the DRM which causes your problem. As a bonus, the songs has better quality.

But the problem has never occured before.

Right, but that was before you updated to iTunes 8.1 (or 8.1.1).

I spoke with Apple and they told me that the ability to use protected music in an iMovie project has been removed from the latest version of iTunes.

Did they tell you why?
Did they tell you if that ability will be reinstated?

Just deauthorized, deleted iTunes, installed newest version (8.2), reauthorized and still won't allow to use purchased songs in iMovie. There is no update to what just installed.

I have been through this before and spent several hours doing things like this, speaking with Apple, reinstalling previous versions,etc. We upgraded to the higher quality downloads (don't remember what they call it) but nothing works. This has to stop or we will never download from iTunes again.

Any other ideas? Guess we will have to convert the file format of those things we purchased.

Yes... burn your intended tunes to CD then import those to your movie.

This is the procedure that I have used when working with iTunes music.

1. Burn the music in question to a CD.

2. Reimport the music as an AIFF file. iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing>Import using: (drop down menu) AIFF encoder

3. This music can now be imported into the project.

It does help. I did that last night and reimported. It's cumbersome, but it works, and my wife is, oh, so happy now since she is the one doing the movies. It seems that the CD's are in the AIFF format and didn't need to be converted on import.

Correction, it's the AAC format. I'm using iTunes 8.02 on my machine and 8.2 on my wife's. There doesn't seem to be an AIFF import preference in the 8.02 version. Anyway, we're working now.
