Audio over several slides

What is the procedure to have audio/music play over several slides in a Keynote presentation? I want the music to play at the start of the show for say 10 slides than stop and perhaps start again at a later point in the presentation.

Welcome to the forum!

Yours is an extremely common question, and unfortunately there is not a simple answer, as Keynote doesn't support this directly. The most straightforward workaround is to create a separate presentation for the slides you want the music on, and set the music to play for that entire presentation. Then use hyperlinks to link up those slides to the other presentation(s) that have the other, nonmusic slides on them.

Create a new empty presentation. Cut the slides you want from the old presentation and paste them into the new one (you can do this with the slide thumbnails in the Navigator view). Save the new presentation. On the last slide of the now-truncated old presentation, select an object or text to act as the hyperlink, and using the Hyperlink Inspector set the link destination to the new presentation. (If you want the hyperlink itself to be invisible on that last slide, cover the slide with an object and then make that object transparent in the Graphics Inspector -- this will let you click anywhere on the slide to go to the new presentation.)
