iPod Touch and Bluetooth

Do we yet know whether the iPod Touch will get Bluetooth, after the next software release. If it does, I will be looking for a compact Bluetooth Stereo Headset and mic. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Hi Guys
Thanks for your responses.Peter Gaunt has obviously read the same thing that I have, regarding the iPod Touch already having Bluetooth but it not being activated. I also understand that Apple want to 'surprise' everyone at the June Convention. As a user I am of course very interested in the possibility of Bluetooth for the iPod Touch and will try to be patient!

So I've purchased and installed the iphone os 3.0 software update as I was eager to try out the new bluetooth features on my ipod touch 2G - specifically the possibilities for connecting with external devices.

However I can't seem to get it to work correctly. When entering the Bluetooth sub-menu in the settings application I enable bluetooth and the OS purports to be scanning the surroundings to give me a list of nearby bluetooth devices. However the list never displays any device regardless of them being set to to be visible.

So far I've managed to pair my mobile phone with the ipod by using my mobile's discovery function. My laptop also managed to discover the ipod but in the Widcomm bluetooth manager the ipod shows up as a "stereo headset". Also, after pairing the mobile with the ipod the mobile shows up in the list of connected devices but nothing happens if I tap it to connect. Also I am unable to send pictures from my mobile to the ipod as it doesn't show up in the list of available devices on my mobile despite having paired it in advance.

In other words: I can't get the discovery function of the ipod touch to work and I have yet to find any functions built into the iphone os that enable me to use bluetooth for say

My question is this: Where can I find documentation to understand how to utilise the bluetooth function on the ipod touch and does anyone know if it has any built-in limitations?

Ideally I'd like to use the bluetooth function on the ipod to do the following:
connect to the internet via the 3G modem in my mobile
send photos, contact information and other data between my mobile, computers and ipod
connect my ipod to an external gps dongle using bluetooth
connect to other ipods using bluetooth
use my ipod as a bluetooth remote
synchronise my ipod over bluetooth
connect my ipod to an external bluetooth headset to get microphone functionality

I imagine that much of this functionality is probably dependent on me purchasing relevant applications that will enable the functionality considering Apple's approach of sandboxing data within each application.

Does anyone else have experience using the bluetooth feature on the ipod touch 2g after installing iphone os 3?

I'm as frustrated as you mate..... It appears the BT Stack will ONLY work with Stereo BT headsets - not even a Stereo audio receiver with A2DP, such as the Anycom BAR-10, which I love and use all of the time with my Sony BT dongle and looks like I will need to continue using it.

Another shortcoming is one can not skip songs, but only play & pause - why would they disallow that feature as it can/is process commands back upstream with the play/pause buttons....

All in all, I am very dissapointed with the implementation and I too want the capability to tether to my phone for 3G Internet access - if they would only enable that feature, it will grow their market share as others would like to leverage that feature, as well.

Furthermore, there is a thread going on below, where this also being discussed:

Wish I could help. I've been trying to connect a Phillips BT stereo headset to my iPod touch G2. The iPod sees my iMac - the iMac sees my iPod - I get a 6 digit code the BT indicator on the menu becomes dark. Thats it. I go to services to at least try to connect for a sync but am told the iPod has no services to allow it OK but I think I saw a AD2P - or something like that allowing stereo headsets was included in 3.0.

**** I cuss my cell phone (cheap one - reason I don't have a iPhone :)) for the same problem. Maybe not all BT is BT - is there a standard?
