iTunes/PC not detecting iPhone or iPod at all....

Having serious connection issues with the Apple USB Driver file.

I had to (HAD TO) reinstall Windows Vista (64bit) and updated all the updates to windows (service pack 1) then I started to re-install iTunes the latest version. Now whenever I connect my iPhone or my iPod it doesn't even get recognized by my computer or iTunes.

I have tried:

-Rebooting
-using a friends iPhone/iPod cable
-rebooting iPhone
-reinstalling iTunes (2x)
-connecting to different USB ports on my comp

Nothing, nada, zip, zilch.

My USB ports work fine...I plug in other devices without any problems.

So what's the deal? I wanna be able to add songs as well as update my iPhone to the new 3.0 when it comes out.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

PC, Windows Vista

Katrina:

I uninstalled my anti-virus program rebooted. Uninstalled iTunes and rebooted..reinstalled iTunes and still no luck:(

There part I read the "windowsXP service pack" issue was from this:

"Tip: Check Device Manager first (right-click on My Computer, choose Manage, and then select Device Manager). If no devices appear in the Windows Device Manager, go here."

I'm in that same boat. I cannot see in the device manager my iPhone or iPod.

I've searched online but I can't find any solution to my problem...am I the only one?? ugh:(

Katrina,

Thanks for your help I really do appreciate it however please understand my situation. My iPhone and iPod do not show up whatsoever.

The option of resetting my iPhone or iPod isn't even an option as it doesn't show up at all. Like I said it doesn't show up in windows explorer or iTunes nor does it even charge the phone.

even if I could reset my iphone or iPod it would mean losing everything and starting from scratch...that would be very annoying.

No, try it with the ipod first - a reset does NOT erase stuff. You are thinking of a restore.

On click-wheel ipods, It's where you hold down the center button and pause button for a few seconds.
The apple logo shows up and everything is still on the ipod. I don't know how to do a reset on an iPhone, but I imagine there is something similar that just restarts its firmware without erasing content.

I do get that the PC doesn't recognize the devices. Anyway, you can't restore an iPod until iTunes recognizes it, as you pointed out.
You'd be amazed, a reset has made my iPod behave lots of times when it starts acting funny. Just takes a few secs.

Really sorry for misunderstanding you. Yeah, I did do a restore but just not while connected to the USB plug. I just tried and nothing changed. 😟

The iPhone you just shut down and restart by holding the power button and the home botton for a few seconds...I definitely tried that with no luck.

I'm guess by the responses here I'm like a rare case and there is no solution found yet? I hope not. I tried my friends iPhone...it didn't work on my computer either. However we tried it on his machine both my iPhone and his worked and was detected.

So it's definitely my PC. I don't know what could cause it. Right now i have no anti-virus software installed so I'm trying to figure out what else could be making the Apple USB driver not work.

I had the same issue. I followed the troubleshooting article but nothing worked. It was strange because I've had my iPod sync no problems. On a whim, I tried it in the integrated USB port (v1.1) and it worked. Clearly something wrong with my USB 2.0 card. I have re-installed the drivers but that didn't clear it up. Next step is to remove the card and re-install it. Anyway, while it's slow using USB 1.1, it is working. Hope this helps.

I had a similar issue on Windows 7 Beta RC2.
I had to update the driver with C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. Windows 7 was wrongly pointing to a MTP device driver.
Then restarting the services "Apple Mobile" and "iPod Management" did the trick.
This worked for me..
Cheers,
Steve
