DATE WRONG for creating, modifying and opening files

hi

my date and time is correct in the top right corner of the desktop, but somehow it keeps dating files (randomly) to 08/6/08. every file is created, modified, last opened on that weird date, but only in Finder's Columns view. in other views and in "more info" the dates are correct. why? pls tell me how to change this
