Rod, I've just done a recent fresh install of Tiger+Updates, Virex has never been installed and I know what processes should & shouldn't be running and their normal loads, all of which are all fine.
I've check all the capacitors and they all look OK despite being the X type ones, however on the big-ish chip just above the G5, I assume is the graphics chip there is a clear sticky liquid all over it and soaked into the foam above it - thats not right.
I spent an hour on the phone with AppleCare after a lengthy web-chat where I discussed the various problems with my iMac: CD not ejecting/Ejecting across the desk, a white bar across the bottom of the screen, excessive fan noise and liquid on chip, was told to call an Apple Authorised Service provider and wait maybe 3 weeks while they have a look at it.
As I write (for the second time as it just shut down unexpectedly):
