Sony Clock Radio charging oddity

I bought a Sony ICF-C1iPMK2 Clock Radio to work with my iPhone 3G. While still in its Contour case, the iPhone was connected solidly enough to the base that the radio functioned as expected. The battery with a lightning bolt was displayed, but the big battery symbol is showing that the battery level is falling fast.

I took the phone out of its case and reconnected it to the radio. I'll let you know if that solves the problem.

Has anyone seen a case when the charging indicator is on, but the battery level continues to fall?

Hi David,

If you haven't already, try updating the iPhone to the latest software available.

If the iPhone is already updated, try restarting it by holding the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears> then slide to turn off> and turn the iPhone back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake again, as described on page 34 of the iPhone User Guide.

Does the iPhone charge correctly from your Mac or the USB power adapter?
Does the iPhone display a charging not supported message when connected to the radio?

This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476 displays that message along with details about charging the iPhone.

Thanks, Jason and Joe.

Sony sent me the definitive answer to this question.

Thank you for contacting Sony Support.

I'm glad to provide the information about connecting iPhone to the unit. As per the information available online *iPhone 3 G is not compatible with the unit*. I suggest that you refer 2 in the manual for the unit to view the information about compatible iPod models. You can view, save and/or print the manual and other supplied documentation from our website at:

There's the answer, but I still don't know why the charging icon comes on or why I don't get some kind of incompatibility warning. Oh, well, my disappointment with Sony deepens even further.
