You can't watch youtube videos with Quicktime. Youtube uses flash to view the videos.
You can how ever open the activity window in Safari and copy the URL for the flv and then copy that URL into Quicktime's "Open URL" window to play the video. You will need the Perian component for Quicktime to be able to view these Youtube videos.
If I understand you correctly, I have to download both the software from Perian PLUS Adobe Flash Player Software in order to be able to watch youtube on my QT ?
How much does the Adobe Flash Player Software cost ?
When installing the Flash player you will need to REPAIR PERMISSIONS and restart you computer. Installing the Flash player tents to rake havoc with permissions. It's always a good practice to repair permissions when installing anything on your computer.

Thanks David,
In order to watch youtube, installing the Adobe Flash Player will work ? Or must I also download the perian component as well ?
You might as well have both, they do different things.
Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.
If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

The Flash player is for watching Flash videos (like YouTube) on the internet through a browser (like Safari).
The Perian component enables the Quicktime player is to watch Flash videos (like YouTube's Flash flv's) . Perian also enables the Quicktime to play a bunch of other codec/formats to be able to be played too. From the Perian web site:

I have installed the perian components but still settng the message "invalid URL" when I did "Open URL".
I haven't install the flash player but I should still be able to watch youtube in QT after installing perian component (but without flash player), right ?
