The Elgato products, the EyeTv 410, comes with its own antenna that will enable you to receive clear pictures. If you want Pay TV some of the Elgato products offer this as well, but you'll be able to watch the basic 5 channels and a dozen or so other freeview channels with the standard equipment. If you are in the UK, you'd have to have a licence for any device that can receive TV. The companies that sell the equipment are obliged by law to inform TV Licencing. Take care!

You will need a decent aerial connection to make best use of it, portable aerials may not always work well with Freeview. My experience with portable aerials is they don't work very well. I doubt you will be able to fix an external aerial in your dorm.

Yes you will need a TV licence.

] and you would say that the recpetion for freeview is pretty good?

Unlike analogue transmissions which have varying levels of reception, with digital transmissions, basically it is an all or nothing type scenario.

You either get a good picture or you don't get a picture at all.

The quality of digital transmission over the analogue (especially using eyeTV) is pretty dramatic with the digital being of a much higher qaulity.
