Serial number on Final cut express

The serial number is usually found on a sticker that is stuck to the back of the installation instructions that come in the box. At least for me, the serial number was 32 digits/letters long. It should probably be around that length for you, too.

If you have FCE 4 the serial number will probably be formed by a single letter followed by 9 groups of numbers or letters in threes, followed by a group of 4 mixed numbers and letters.

This is a made up example to show you how the numbers and letters might look ........ you won't usually find lots of consecutive series of letters and numbers in a real serial:-

A-123-ABC-456-DEF-789-GHJ- 321-KLM-654-NPQ-RS7T

Incidentally you don't put in the dashes!

Its not on the box. Check the paperwork that came IN the box.

One last thing to try that caught me out with FCE 1.0.1.

Make sure the cursor is right at the start of the number box. Mine was one space along, which I did not notice for a while!

So I called Support and they've been of great help. I misinterpreted a character. FCE4 works just fine.

Tip: the 1 can be mistaken for an "eye"

I've tried everything from with and without dashes, the 1's replaced with capital i etc. As of now nothing seems to help. Time to give the Apple Office a call?

Thanks for the tip. Now I've really tried everything and it still does not work. I think they delivered the wrong disk.

I thought you said you had checked the 1s and capital i ?

I thought I did. The "I" is slightly closer to the characters than the "1's". The "1's" have the same shape as the "I's" and that's misleading.

Sorry, I meant that the "1's" are printed closer to the characters.
