How do you disable iTunes?

I want to plug my ipod into my computer and not have itunes open itself, how do I do this? If impossible, how do I temporarily disable iTunes?

Hi John,

To prevent iTunes from opening automatically when you connect iPod to your
computer:
1 In iTunes, select iPod in the source list and click the Summary tab.
2 In the Options section, deselect “Open iTunes when this iPod is connected.”
3 Click Apply.

or as you connect iPod touch to your computer, press and hold Command-Option (on a Mac) or Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPod touch appear in the sidebar.

there is also an option in iTunes preferences to prevent ipod syncing automatically.

Hope this helps.

This option has been removed. Why, I don't know. Even though in iTunes you can tell iTunes not to autosync, it begins some kind of sync and resets the database on my iPhone, so when I plug it into my MBP at work to charge, everything I've listened to/watched/deleted gets set back to new, so it messes up my sync on my mac mini at home.

If Apple actually reads these things: Please Please Please put the option to NOT OPEN ITUNES WHEN DEVICE CONNECTED back!!!

I was having the same annoying problem and, after reading this post, went into itunes on my work computer and unchecked the box that says "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected."

BUT, I took it a step further an in the iTunes Preferences, under Devices, I also checked the box that says "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and that finally did the trick. I can finally charge at work without screwing up my podcasts for the commute home and my sync when I get home!!
