Mac Addict Magazine Scam?? or Apple scam?

When I bought my iMac I was offered a free subscription of Mac Addict. So I went for it. I got no magazine after some time then I got a bill from Mac Addict for $29.95. I wrote back to Mac Addict saying that this was a free subscription when I bought my Mac. They started sending me Mac Addict and another bill shows up a month later. I refused to pay for something that came free with my iMac. Now I have a collection agent on my case to pay up! Has anyone else been scammed like this by Mac Addict or is this a scam by Apple?I refuse to pay!!

Mac,

I also receive MacAddict because of an iMac purchase. I receive it for free and have never been billed.

I believe that both Future Network and Apple are honorable companies and there is no scam involved.

I would:

1. "Also try our [MacAddict] customer service line at 888-771-6222"

2. Consider buying the magazine thru this website (personal experience over 2+ years says it is great): http://www.landofmags.com/usersearch.asp?action=showdetails&PUBNO=21106&CAT1=3
I think 2 years for $14 USD is a great bargin.

I've been a MacAddict subscriber since October '97. They are IMO the best Macintosh mag out there. They are also very customer-friendly.

When I bought my 15" iMac, I started getting my free copy plus my regular copy. I called them and got the entire free subscription period added onto my paid subscription (at least that is my recollection).

Look at your address label - it should indicate when you are up for renewal. Call them up and calmly explain that there has been a mixup. Mention that a collection agent has mistakenly been given your information and is calling you. I would bet you that your troubles will soon be over, and that you'll in fact renew your subscription when the free period is over.

Congratulations on your iMac!

When I have purchased Macs, most of the time a free magazine is the bonus for registering. For me, they have only offered 6 months of MacWorld. And i have not had to pay for it, but it was added to the length of my existing subscription.

I agree that MacAddict is a good magazine, i have subscribed to them (and Mac Home Journal) for a number of years. I felt both were more regular-user friendly and had a lot of very useful information in them.

(Oh, also, I would not assume a scam, but think maybe it is just a case of crossed/messed up paperwork or accounting or something...)

Another note: While you've succeeded in getting the mag to call off the collection dogs, you need to have its assurance that your credit profile won;t reflect the negative report of not paying for your subscription. Don't automatically assume they will notify the credit reporting bureaus since negative reports are usually done automatically upon late bill pay. BTW, never just write to a company over a bill dispute. Such letters often go astray and are rarely successful alone. Always call, act friendly, and record the day and time and customer service person's name who helps you. This goes for all debit/credit transactions which go awry.
