Searching this mac...........

Well, my son has entered this loong string into the search and now when i open finder, under search for, i have this crap in there and it pushes my view window to the far right to where i can not see files and folders. How do i get rid of this bogus search?

That's odd. The search box should empty itself if you close Finder and reopen it.
Try restarting Finder -
In the Apple menu, top left, under Force Quit select Finder and then relaunch.
You might also see of you can clear the window by clicking the little "x" in the search window, at the far right.
You should be able to double-click the search term and then hit the delete key to remove it.

BTW: It's also not good to share an account. I suggest creating a new one for your son or next time it could be something more serious.

I'm a bit unsure of what you mean. Did your son create a Smart Folder, and then leave it set to show up in the Sidebar? If that is the case, just click and hold on the item in the Sidebar and drag it off. It will go away in a poof of smoke. Unless he changed the default, it should have been saved in the home ~/Library/Saved Searches folder. If he wants to use it again he can access it there. It can be renamed there as well to something shorter.

And I agree that your son should definitely have his own account!

Ummm, my son is 3, so he does not need his own account.

But he certainly should not be using yours 🙂
But back to the issue:
I force quit finder and relaunch and the search still shows up in the sidebar of finder. There is no x to click on. I have placed a screen capture here:

The error is not where I thought it was.
Simply drag that bad search off to the left of the Finder window and it will go "Poof!"

Umm, didn't anyone read my post? Drag it off the sidebar as I described. If it is there, it may also be in the home ~/Library/Saved Searches folder, you'll want to Trash it from there too. There is a distinct possiblity that what he did was simply rename one of your Saved Searches. Run the search to see what it does, and if it is one you wish to keep, rename it in the ~/Library/Saved Searches folder.
