What speakers are you using on your iMac?

Just bought my first iMac to add to the collection of Apple computers.

What speakers are folks using? I see these Harmon Karden Soundsticks ll etc in the Apple Store. Or on Amazon.

So what is the iMac users using? I'm looking for some good speakers for casual listening when I use the iMac.

Thanks

I have the JBL Creature II system consisting of two small stereo speakers (each about 1/1/2 inches in diameter) in 3"x3" enclosures and an approximately 4 inch diameter subwoofer in a 9"x9" enclosure. They look kind of like something that would come out of a UFO and I guess that's why they're called Creatures. The stereo speakers each plug into the subwoofer and the subwoofer plugs into the iMac's headphone jack.

Despite having such small speakers, the system produces a surprisingly large volume of really good sound. Unfortunately, it is no longer being produced although it still may be available. But the price (about $300.00) that some dealers are asking for is ridiculously high. It shouldn't cost much more than $100.00.

There are a couple JBL computer systems consisting of stereo speakers and a subwoofer that are still available and apparently are successors to the Creature system. One is the JBL Spyro 2.1.

If you can stand the purplish-red fuchsia color, you get get it for about $70.00 from Amazon. In white, it costs about $120.00 including shipping.

The other one is the JBL Spot 2.1.

It looks as if the subwoofers of both the Spot and Spyro systems are exactly alike. At $250.00 from Amazon, the Spot is way too expensive. But a few Amazon merchants who have very positive ratings carry it for a total of around $130.00, shipping included.

If the Spyro and Spot speakers are at all similar in performance to the Creatures, I believe that you'll end up with excellent audio, especially considering the very small size of the speakers. Just be sure that if you order either system and are not satisfied with it, you can return it for a full refund.

Hi musicmaker

I like my [Creative Inspire T3030's|http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=4&subcategory=27&p roduct=14096], the base thumps real nice, the right & left satellite's have a long enough cord to reach out to the corners of the room for better separation and there is a remote that sits next to my mouse for controlling the volume and base.

The [I-Trigue 3300|http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=4&subcategory=789&pro duct=139&listby=usage] and [I-Trigue 3330|http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=4&subcategory=789&pro duct=14091&listby=usage] closely resemble my older T3030 2.1 Creative Inspire system.

These systems can also be found at Best Buy, Fry's, Amazon, etc...

Swans M10:

If you can find them, BUY 'EM. You won't be disappointed. The sound is impeccable.

You might try the M12 line:

as an alternative, but I only recommend them based on the reputation of Swans Audio.

More info on the entire product line here:

Have fun and good luck with your decision...

I'm using M-Audio Studiophile AV 40's at my desk and a set of Klipsch monitors in the living room, both thru Airport Express Base Stations. The M-Audios are great for the price, if I'm not careful I can get them blasting pretty loud and folks give me a hard time about it. Crystal clear. In fact I was listening to the new remaster of Time Out by the Dave Brubeck Quartet this afternoon and heard some cymbal taps much more distinctly that previous listens. The field is just amazing. As if Morello were right in front of me. I could go on for some time about them. The Klipsch are nice but they are supposed to be.

I'd also like to thank everyone for these excellent suggestions. I myself am looking for speakers to buy for my new iMac.

I need a speaker system with a subwoofer, a 2.1 system would work. I absolutely love the design of the SoundSticks's subwoofer, but I must say I loathe the design of the speakers themselves... That round shiny base looks like it should be kept far far away from my iMac. Wonder if its possible to get the subwoofer only...

All in all, I think the JBL spot would be a nice compromise. They look nice in aluminum covers. These are probably going to be my selection when I finally decide to get them.
