Error Code -61

I just picked up my copy of Sid Meier's Civilization IV Gold Edition today. When I installed it, I followed all of the instructions and all of the game files are on my Hard Drive. When I try and launch the game, the following message appears, "Free us some space on your local disk and them re-launch Civilization IV".

First of all, does this mean to delete something off the the disk that I currently have in my Mac.

I then tried to delete some of the files that have been copied onto the Hard Drive off of the disk and when I do, this message appears, "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. (Error code -61)".

What can I do so that I may play the game, how do I clear space on the disk? I would appreciate instructions that are somewhat easy to understand, I don't have a good understanding of some of the more complicated terms.

Thank You

red_menace,

First of all, I learned that the "local disk" is the Hard Drive (This is how bad I am and the computer language). I have 257.27 GB available on my Hard Drive.

The applications and all it's files are installed onto my Macintosh HD in a file called "Civilization IV Gold"

I'm not quite sure what you mean by owner/permissions but here goes. I opened up the Civilization IV Gold" folder info and clicked on Sharing & Permissions. Directly underneath that, it says "You can read and write". There is then a small table with two columns, under the Name column is Brian (Me), admin, and everyone. Under the Privilege column is says Read & Write for all 3.

Thanks for the reply.

How old is that program? It's possible that it's doing its free space calculation in too few bits to account for the size of modern disk drives. How much free space (exactly) is on your disk? The value may be just above a multiple of a power of 2.

In that case you may be able to resolve the problem by finding a large file on your computer's disk and duplicating it. That could drive the free space below that multiple of a power of 2.

I then tried to delete some of the files that have been copied onto the Hard Drive off of the disk and when I do, this message appears, "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. (Error code -61)".

Is it the Finder that's giving you this message? What files did you try to delete?

I was able to find the solution by searching through other threads. All I had to do was click on the icon(s) that were in the Finder Menu (If that makes sense) and not choose the ones that I had initially dragged onto my doc. This miraculously works! I then dragged the old icons out and the new ones in, and both Civ IV and the Warlords expansion are working.

Thanks for trying to help me guys!
