iMac G5 For design apps

Question

iMac G5 For design apps

I use apps like photoshop, illustrator, quark for a lot of design work.

I need a display that is going to give me a true representation of colour. Will the iMac G5 give me the display and colour performance of my 17" apple display.

On spec the iMac ticks all the boxes apart from this issue which is very important to me.

I'm not a pro in the area, but I do use photoshop and Indesign and find the monitor to be perfectly good on the iMac, and of course, you can calibrate it through System Preferences. But the best thing is to take a cd into a store, if possible, with some tiffs or whatever, and ask them to display them on the machine. Like buying a hi-fi, always bring a cd that you know well to evaluate the sound...

I am a designer and use the same apps you list. I use a 23 inch apple LCD everyday at work, then go home and use my iMac and notice no difference in color representation. I actually like color rep better on my LCD then I ever did on my old CRTs.

Hi,
If you can afford it I would recommend the 20 inch Imac it will be better for design since it is bigger.
The larger the display is the better in my opinion.

Yes, you can get very good color with an imac. If you're doing important work, I'd go for a hardware calibrator rather than the one in system prefs, though.

I have a couple 17" apple lcd's at work, a 20" iMac lcd , and a 15" iMac lcd and do not notice any difference when jumping between them.

They are fairly close to actual colors but if doing high end or full color work that has to be dead on color gamut - I would purchase an actual calibrator.
