streaming MP3 files without flash player ?

Hi- I'm back after an enforced 6 month break due to illness- to finish my website ! It's up and running, but now I need to add the audio clips.

I'm confused !

My website www.innerspheresmusic.com - was made with iWeb, hosted by GoDaddy and I have MP3 files of my music ( classically based ) on my mac waiting to be upoaded. I used Website Maestro as FTP for my text and image pages.

I started on this part last year and believe that the advice given was: *install a flash player for good streaming quality.*

However, recently one of my songs was included in a collection on a big website ( 1000 pages ) and I was so impressed with how quickly the pieces ( 32 of them ) streamed that I wrote and asked what flash player was used. ( The collection is no longer available to hear )

This was the answer: +I use Dreamweaver to update the site, I FTP'd the songs to our website ‘Server’ (hosted by Server Intellect) I use CUTEFTP, to get ALL (files mages, music, etc) and our store that makes up our website.+

+There is no streaming software to do this.+

So now I'm asking: what's the best way to proceed ?

Grateful for your replies,

SeaDream

Glad to hear you're better now.

The expert on this forum about music on iWeb websites is Roddy.

He runs a [Website for musicians|http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWebMusicWebsite/MusicWebsiteBuilding .html] where you can find all info.

Should you have further questions for him, mind you that he is currently overwhelmed by questions of this kind.

If you are in a hurry, do a search on this forum with your question including the words mp3 and flash and you will stumble upon one of his answers.

Kind regards,
Leo

The advantage of using a flash player over dragging your songs onto the iWeb page to play in QuickTime is that the song files do not have to load with the page.
The song files can be stored anywhere on your, or anybody else's, server and are "called up" when required.
For single songs I would recommend this player...

For a more custom look, this one....

http://www.iwebformusicians.com/MusicPlayers/FlashPlayers.html

Probably the simplest jukebox style player is this one....

http://www.iwebformusicians.com/MusicPlayers/FatPlayer.html

You can have as many songs on this as you want and you can force it to be scrollable if you have a 1000 songs and a short page!

Hi Roddy,

Your site is really comprehensive - thanks for going to such trouble in order to help us less-informed folks !

I'm planning about 6 clips initially.

From what you've written, I've understood the advantage of a flash plyer. I'm sure I'll be back ion the forum with more questions, but thanks for such an incredbly quick response, which has very effectively cleared upmy confusion.

Kay.
