Recently my keyboard and trackpad stopped working, and I traced the problem to the connector between the keyboard and trackpad and the motherboard. I opened my Macbook Pro and detached and re-attached the connector to the socket. This got my keyboard and trackpad working again. But then a few days later, the same problem occurred, and the same fix worked. What I need for a long term solution is to firmly tape the connector against the mother, but the tape that currently covers the connector has grown a bit weak. What kind of tape do I need to buy, and where can I get it? I suspect that it's a special heat-resistant kind of cellophane tape.
Only yellow kapton tape will do the job. Everytime tape is removed it should be replaced with a new piece of tape for exactly the same reason you now need it.
Thanks I ordered some kapton tape. The connector between the keyboard/trackpad and the motherboard jiggles loose pretty easily now and I have to open my Macbook Pro to press it in more firmly almost every day now to get my keyboard/trackpad working.
OK I got the kapton tape and replaced it. When I turned on my Macbook Pro, the keyboard and trackpad worked for 5 minutes, then they stopped working. I didn't move my laptop during that time. I just typed on it and used the trackpad.
So I'm back to using the bluetooth Apple Keyboard and Mouse to use my Macbook Pro.
Maybe the problem is a little deeper than the physical contact between the keyboard/trackpad connecter and the motherboard?
That's a tough break. Sounds like there might be a problem with the connectors themselves, either on the cable or the logic board. I suggest that you make an appointment at the
Genius Bar and have them take a look. It costs nothing for looking.
