MIDI Keyboard with GarageBand

MIDI Keyboard with GarageBand

I have a Yamaha YPT-210 keyboard with MIDI outputs. I use a MIDI-to-USB converter to connect it to my MacBook. GarageBand recognized my keyboard, but when I play it, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Are you creating a software instrument track in GB and choosing an instrument? Monitor on?

Yes, I am creating a software instrument track and have chosen an instrument. I am new to GarageBand so detailed instructions would be appreciated. What do you mean by 'monitor on'? Sorry if these are stupid, obvious questions 🙂

he was thinking of an audio track, there is no monitor selection for a software track.

My connections are correct and secure. However, on the MIDI-to-USB converter, the USB light is on, but the MIDI light is not. Here is a picture: http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/7933/1001691.jpg

What does this mean? Could it be a problem with the keyboard?

Please ignore the last post...I wasn't thinking...MIDI light will not come on unless MIDI is being transferred to the keyboard. So that has nothing to do with my problem.

I'm gonna try to explain this better. I want to use my keyboard as a controller when using software instruments. When I connect my keyboard to my MacBook using a Hosa MIDI-to-USB interface cable, GarageBand detects the keyboard, but when I play the keyboard, nothing happens in GarageBand.
